The medium size, metal bowl is 32oz of die-cast aluminum and completely coated in inert, PTFE. The PTFE coating, under harsh conditions, will scratch off.
PTFE is a commonly used, non-stick coating for cookware, industrial and medical uses. We wanted to seal the aluminum surface of the bowl. We looked at paints, powder-coating, plating, and anodizing. With paint, powder coat, and plating there are issues of unknown chemicals used to make the pigments for the colors. The anodized version looked unacceptable. We are convinced that PTFE coating is inert. So, if PTFE is ingested it will pass through animal (or humans) with no deleterious effects.
Helps reduce the risk of Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV or 'Bloat')
Slower eating makes an animal feel more full and reduces instances of re-eating
